Support our fight against plastic waste in Thailand

50% of the plastic we use is used once and thrown away. Plastic accounts for roughly 10% of all the garbage on the planet. Roughly 8 million tons of plastic is dumped into the world's oceans every year. It takes between 500 –1000 years for plastic to degrade. One million seabirds and 100.000 mammals die a slow death every year from oceanic plastic waste that they have mistaken for food and eaten. It is called “Death by Plastic”. Today, the majority of the world’s oceanic plastic waste comes from just five countries, and Thailand is one of them, contributing over one thousand tons per year. I want us to change that.

Fundraising to save Daniel & Katia
My dear friends , My name is Masha Zhigunova. I'm working at Vejthani Hospital in Bangkok. These children were hit by a bus, you've probably saw it on the news, and they need our help. The bus driver was 100% wrong and they are now in a really bad shape. They need multiples surgeries on their brain and spine. They are 16 and 14 years , brother and sister. I am with them at Vejthani Hospital where they are currently being treated. They will be in ICU awaiting surgeries but they really need your help. Please. I am a mom and cannot see them suffer like this. We need to do something. This is not the first time I am doing this and those of you that know me will know that these children are in great hands. The bills are already reaching more than 300,000 THB and still rising every day. Thank you in advance for your help ! -------------------------------------- More information about the accident : English : http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/971314-online-appeal-to-help-russian-kids-in-coma-following-pattaya-accident/ Thai : http://www.mtoday.co.th/5983 -------------------------------------- For those who still think it's a scam, here is a picture of me posted on the Russian Embassy website accompanied by the Russian ambassador and Father Oleg in Daniel's room.http://thailand.mid.ru/news/2220-nastoyatel-svyatonikolaevskogo-sobora-i-posol-rossii-posetili-v-bolnitse-detej-postradavshikh-v-dtp -------------------------------------- Q/A to the expat community :-Who are the parents and where can they be reached? Father and mother both visit their kids at the hospital but the mum is in an emotional state and the father is stuck in pattaya dealing with lawyers and police. -Are they aware of the fundraising? Of course they are. -What the embassy said? The embassy is aware of the case and is helping in every step on the way. -What about the insurance The insurance so far has agreed to pay 380,000 THB per child but we are still waiting for the money to be released. This amount won't cover all the hospital fees that are increasing everyday, neither the operation & rehabilitation cost and this is why this fundraiser has been launched because the parents cannot afford such fees.

Fundraising to save baby Leanne
Dear friends, My name is Masha Zhigunova and I work at Vejthani hospital in Bangkok. This little baby desperately needs our help ! Letter from her mother : "Leanne is our little princess. Two months after she was born, doctors said she will only have days and maybe weeks to live. Every time she cries, she will turn purple and then stops breathing which once lead her to have her heart completely stopped. If she has another cardiac arrest she may not survive. So that day, the nurses put the Wonder Woman costume on her. Today is her 9 months birthday.Doctors said she might not live to celebrate her first birthday, so we celebrate it every month. Leanne was diagnosed with trisomy 13 and congenital heart disease. Her condition was not detected during pregnancy until she reached 3 weeks old. She was moved from NICU, ward, PICU, long term care and ICU, and from one hospital to another, but never been home. We contacted all the hospitals that could possibly do the surgery for her but unfortunately they all refused because of her trisomy. Originally from Philippines, our family is permanently residing in the U.A.E but due to finding the proper treatment for Leanne we are currently in Thailand where she has been admitted since the beginning of May.My husband stopped working to focus on taking care of Leanne while I had to go back to work as I have been on leave for more than a year now. Her insurance is running out being in the hospital her whole life and she will still need a series of heart surgeries, a continuous therapy and lifetime medications."During this period of intensive treatment and given Leanne's young age, one parent will need to look after her full time which means one income will need to be sacrificed during this difficult period. It's not easy to ask, but I hope that people who can imagine how heartbreaking it can be to have your own child being in such condition can help to defray the high medical costs to treat Leanne and help her to survive. Anything you can give will mean the world to this family.   On behalf of the parents and the young Leanne herself, thank you in advance for your support and kindness.
