We are a team of volunteers who have been feeding stray dogs in Lamai Valley, in Koh Samui for more than 10 years. Whilst we have a few sponsors, we provide the food, medication and occasional costs for sterilizations out of our own pockets. With our hard work, the number of dogs and cots has been more or less manageable... until recently.
Like so many volunteer groups, we are also suffering from the effects of the Covid Pandemic. We recently had a huge increase in numbers of dogs on our feeding round. Both the migrant and Thai workers have had to leave as 75% of them lost their jobs as businesses closed . As Covid took hold and the country closed borders other foreigners also had to leave due to visa constraints. Abandoning thousands of dogs ...... Many people would have fed dogs on their way to or from work too, as well as around their homes/ camps and busy restaurants would give left- over food- all that has stopped
The number of starving dogs has doubled over the last 4 months..... so, therefore, have our food and med costs....caring for them all is now a full-time job...365 days a year. Collectively, we are now taking care of over 150 dogs and we simply won’t be able to cope much longer. Not only do we feed the dogs daily, we also provide medication and arrange for sterilization to avoid more litters of puppies. As we need to work harder to earn the money to buy food and medication, it is more and more difficult for us to get the money together and find the time to help all the dogs.
To alleviate the problem, we would love to employ two Thai ladies to help us on our round. Khun Lay has lost her job very early during the pandemic, and whilst she has received some government help, the payments have now completely stopped. Khun Wan has lost her job as well and has been out of work for 8 months. She has 39 dogs herself that she has basically collected from the roadside when they were too malnourished, injured, or sick.
Please help us help the dogs and simultaneously two wonderful Thai ladies who have a heart of gold and are true animal lovers.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
