Air is an Akha Hilltribe child who at the age of nine months was infected with Japanese Encephalitis resulting in her having complex medical and developmental needs. As she grew older, Air had more frequent hospital admissions and in 2019 she became critically ill, spending over 3 months inpatient requiring ventilator support. To receive proper medical treatment and therapeutic intervention Air and her mom, Yupin, have moved from their mountain village to the city. Under her mother’s continued care, Air is thriving in her new environment. Financially the family depends on sponsorship as the government disability benefit is only 800THB (approx. $26 USD) per month with Yupin unable to work outside of the home as Air requires constant supervision.
In February, Air had surgery to place a gastrostomy tube for feeding. Replacement tubes must be paid for out of pocket. The requested funds will be used towards the purchase of 2 low profile gastrostomy button kits ($160 USD each) and extensions for feeding all of which have been approved by Air's surgeon. The low-profile buttons are best suited for her level of activity.
Having the proper equipment to be safely fed will ensure that AIr continues to grow and thrive. She is a source of JOY for many and is so very LOVED. Thank you
