About Manushya Foundation: An Award-Winning Feminist Force for Justice Under Attack
Manushya Foundation is a women-led, intersectional feminist human rights organization fighting for justice, democracy, and equality across Asia since 2017.
We redistribute power to frontline activists—youth, feminists, Indigenous communities, and grassroots movements—who are resisting authoritarianism, corporate exploitation, and false climate solutions. These are the true leaders driving real change in their communities.
In recognition of our impact, we were honored with the 2024 Human Rights Tulip Award by the Dutch Embassy in Thailand.

Defending Free Speech, Fighting for Climate Justice, and Protecting Those on the Frontlines
Dear Friends,
Now more than ever, we need your support for the survival of the Manushya Foundation and the communities we serve. The U.S. funding freeze is not just a financial crisis—it is a life-or-death sentence for many of us on the ground, working tirelessly to save lives, protect Indigenous communities, and fight for climate justice.
Without urgent funding, the activists, villagers, and grassroots movements we support will be left defenseless against corporate land grabs, environmental destruction, and state repression.
We cannot let that happen. We need you to stand with us now.
Putting People and Planet Over Profit
While corporations exploit people and the planet for profit, we fight back to hold them accountable and protect those on the frontlines. Through our Corporate Accountability & Climate Justice portfolio, we:
- Expose corporate abuses and push for stronger environmental laws.
- Hold corporations accountable through legal action and advocacy.
- Empower frontline defenders with legal support, grants, and capacity building.
- Amplify voices of impacted communities at national and global levels.
- Funding Grassroots Resistance
Our feminist and decolonial approach to grantmaking ensures that Indigenous, environmental, and climate justice movements receive the support they need to resist corporate and state oppression. We provide:
- Strategic core funding ($6,000–$10,000) for communities fighting corporate land grabs.
- Rapid-response grants for environmental defenders facing threats, violence, or legal persecution.
Protecting Activists Under Attack
Those fighting for democracy, human rights, and climate justice face extreme risks. That’s why we provide:
- Safe Houses in Bangkok for activists and their families fleeing persecution.
- Emergency Protection Mechanisms to prevent unlawful detention, deportation, and targeted killings.
Our Impact in 2024 Alone
- 33 rapid response grants saved 128 activists and families.
- 16 activists resettled—one case in just 26 days instead of 5–10 years.
- 20+ feminist, youth-led, and climate justice movements funded.
Because of our life-saving work, we were awarded the 2024 Human Rights Tulip Award by the Dutch Embassy in Thailand.
The Story: A Crisis That Puts Lives and Our Planet at Risk
- The U.S. Aid Freeze is a Death Sentence for Activists and Climate Defenders
We have lost 75% of our funding overnight ($560,000), forcing us to scale back critical support for communities and activists. Without urgent donations, we can no longer:
- Keep our safe houses open, leaving those in hiding exposed to immediate danger.
- Support 35 activists and their families, who now face imprisonment, torture, or assassination.
- Fund climate justice movements fighting to stop illegal land grabs, environmental destruction, and corporate impunity.
The Movements We Can No Longer Support Without You
#SaveSabWai Villagers – Indigenous communities resisting land grabs and forced evictions will be left vulnerable without legal aid and campaign support.
#JusticeForPhichit – Villagers poisoned by a toxic goldmine have fought for justice for years. Without funding, they lose their ability to hold corporations accountable.
Climate Defenders & Land Protectors – Local activists exposing deforestation, illegal mining, and environmental destruction face escalating threats. Without resources, they can’t continue their fight.
The recent assassination of Cambodian activist Lim Kimya shows the deadly consequences of inaction. Many Cambodian climate leaders are stranded in Thailand, awaiting resettlement while facing extreme risk.
We refuse to let frontline defenders be silenced, displaced, or killed. Your support ensures that those fighting for people and the planet are not left alone.
We Must Act Now. Your Support Saves Lives.
