Hello everyone, my name is Billy Reutter and I'm a Scuba Instructor that has been leading diving tours in Myanmar's Mergui Archipelago for the past few years. The Archipelago is a very beautiful region both topside and underwater, however, their is a big problem that needs to be addressed and it refers to the overfishing of its waters and the negligent discarding of fishing gear such as longline fishing line with hooks attached and fishing nets. Over the years, I have removed an abundance of discarded fishing nets, saved hundreds of fish trapped in the nets and a few sea turrtles as well. For every 1 50 meter long net removed, three or four are replaced straight away. My mission is to raise money for the removal of this lost gear (ghost gear). Please help me and my team save alot of marine life that lives in this area or just passing through by helping me fund these conservation initiaves. The removal of "ghost gear" is imperative and must be addressed by conducting underwater dive site cleanups, creating sustainable fishing practices and to develop an understanding of marine ecology and conservation within the local fishing communities is the scope of this project.
