The Story

As billions of people enjoy the return of spring, a time to cherish rebirth, liberation and soak up all five senses with what festivities have to offer, I could only wish my family and friends experience this for me because I’m turning blind.

I’m Vishesh Narula and I suffer from a horrific eye condition concerning retinal detachment, optical tissue folding and complications arising from Stage 4 Diabetic Kidney Disease. My daily suffering entails foot swelling, chronic eczema, constant headaches, overwhelming mental challenges, fatigue, limited vision, extreme light sensitivity and a gradually sinking eyeball.

Instead of pursing dreams to receive political science education, my elder brother and I had to actively work to support our parents as their pressing heart health issues restricted them from a fulltime job. The recent passing of my elder brother made matters worse. I cannot afford to allocate limited family funds for my own treatment.

As part of the Indian diaspora community well settled in Thailand, I have decided to removed my turban as a symbol of conversion from Sikhism to Christianity, a means of solidifying a fresh start with potentially better integration opportunities and second chances. Such a decision to convert has proven to be a double whammy due to ensuing motivated and baseless accusations of theft from conservative elements of the extended family and subsequent forced social exile from extended family business while being the sole provider for my own parents.

Although I’m seeking free treatment at the expense of Thai taxpayer’s money, of which I’m grateful for, it has become apparent that I require specialized private medical attention due to my complicated health situation.

I appeal to all readers, especially those of the overseas Indian diaspora community, to assist me in funding my life-changing eye surgery. I value your generous contributions whether big or small.
