The Story

My name is Liam Dale, Ex-BBC presenter now living in Udon Thani Thailand for 5 years.

I'm raising 60000 baht ($1,800 inc fees) to help cover the hospital bills for Wacharapon Naononthong, the kid who got hit by a car on 21/6 leaving his aunt and cousin for dead.

Many stories here are tragic but this one more than many.
Aunt, son, cousin school run home. Hit by a speeding Drunk Australian driver - FLEEING THE SCENE of a previous encounter with Thai police in pursuit.
Wacharapon is the sole survivor.

It is more sad. His uncle works as a security guard 100 meters from where the accident happened. He heard BANG and rushed from work to help. Only to SEE HIS FAMILY BROKEN all over the road.

Can you imagine how that feels?

He earns about $15 a day - 450 Thai baht. Long hours. Not much money.

Let us PLEASE see if we can find contributions to help with temple costs for two family members and cover some of the hospital bills together.

weeboon is an extraordinary new site in Thailand - doing a magnificent job of raising public awareness to good causes. I wish them every luck in the future for a job done well.

If you can't help, please at least share. Thank you.

Wach is HOME! It has been a roller coaster campaign because of the difficulty of getting accurate information from the word go into English Language. His other eye is now opening.. he can drink a little milk. That is it. He has a sofa and can see/hear the TV. Fresh air and air con when needed. The house is a peaceful place - clean and tidy. Healthier I think than a general ward in the hospital.

For full update please visit https://udonchinwag.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=53&p=98#p98

We are merely waiting for bank details for Wach - at which point we will close this weeboon donation and funds will be transferred.

Weeboon has proved to be an excellent platform for this campaign. Out performing the long established Just giving - which has been in play for about 16 years. weeboon.com for me has established its place as the NUMBER ONE CROWD FUNDING PLATFORM for Thailand. I understand they will in due course produce a picture cheque and I hope we can use that to promote their contribution AND show the Thai Community that we can live in peace together and truly take care when a tragedy occurs.

I am sorry Thailand for what happened. I hope you understand what we have tried to do.

Money doesn't heal the crime -

but shows we care - please give it time.

4/7/17. It's Happy Independence Day for USA! And WE HAVE HIT the 55k needed to cut a payment of 50k to Wach. I hope he can understand this when I see him tomorrow.

MEANWHILE I have raised the target to 75k.. IF we hit THAT.. we will keep going/raise it again.. and there will be ANOTHER drop in Wach's bank book in due course.

weeboon offers great flexibility with its site. I'm very pleased with them. I have a distant dream (getting closer) and just wonder.. if we can get to 100k for the boy. THAT is IMPACT MONEY of a much better nature than the impact he suffered 2 weeks ago.

I went to check the lad yesterday and his bed in ICU was empty. Like a B movie scene I moved in slow mo to find a nurse who knew me and learnt (In Thai) that he had been moved to general surgery and the word PLASTIQUE was clearly mentioned. So bye bye air conditioned ICU with about 15 beds and many staff - down to the hot tub hall with 100 + beds where I found a clearly quiet, distressed and possibly depressed Wach and his Aunt and cousin. The Aunt speaks ENGLISH. A step forward in understanding logistics together.

Wach's face didn't look good so I resisted a close up. He looked at me with his one eye (the other is stitched closed) - He is fed liquid food via IV as his face and mouth DON'T work and there is pipework for his nose. (see the yummy food packet in the picture).

When I asked him to try a thumbs up for a photo as before.. his fingers worked like a dying spiders legs and it took about 8 seconds for the thumb to rise in slow motion.

We are nowhere near the stage of a smile. He will hopefully get there but recovery in order to walk and make his face work again is estimated at about 3 months - before a return to school is possible.
