We are now growing into a local ecosystem of change-seekers to increase our local outreach and impact.

ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN : STOP THE SMOKE: BIOCHAR

Every year the whole region suffocates because of the uncontrolled burning of biomass (leaves, wood, agricultural waste): not only is this a serious health hazard (the worst air pollution worldwide with API 900+), it also causes massive loss of soil fertility and natural habitat. This year, Pai Seedlings Foundation is partnering with Warm Heart Foundation, Biochar Trust, and Task.io to bring a community empowering solution: BIOCHAR.

BIOCHAR is an easy way to burn biomass without smoke in order to store the carbon in the soil. By developing and sharing BIOCHAR appropriate technology we will:

1. Improve air quality and livelihood;

2. Improve soil fertility, water retention, and carbon sequestration capacity (carbon sinks);

3. Create economic opportunities for farmers to sell the carbon offsets to companies through an easy-to-use smartphone application.

With your support, we can affect the livelihood of thousands of people in Mae Hong Son, and create a replicable solution that can affect further millions!

YEAR 1 BUDGET (THB): 560 000 thb

- Thai operational manager to coordinate and support local action: 240k

- Pick up truck for material and operational needs (2nd hand): 150k

- Tools and Material: 10k

- Training: 20k

- Tech development and monitoring: 60k

- Consumable and other operational expenses: 80k
