Terri’s Happy Hounds Koh Samui Caring for abandoned dogs 365 days a year

1

The Story

I moved to Koh Samui more than 17 years ago.
I quickly became aware of the huge number of injured, sick and malnourished dogs in my area that needed help.
I started out helping as soon as I could and learning as I went. It was a difficult task which grew and grew ....concentrating on their sickness, injuries and getting them well enough to vaccinate and sterilize was a huge task. Together with the help of local animal shelters, vets and other organisations I was able to help many dogs over the years.

Fast forward to the pandemic, both the migrant and Thai workers have had to leave as 75% of them lost their jobs as businesses closed . Samui is 100% reliant on tourism. As Covid took hold and the country closed borders other foreigners also had to leave due to visa constraints. Abandoning thousands of dogs.

Many people would have fed dogs on their way to or from work too, as well as around their homes/ camps and busy restaurants would give left- over food-all that has stopped.

The number of starving dogs has doubled over the last year months..... so, therefore, have our food and med costs....caring for them all is now a full-time job...365 days a year.

I take care of around 87 dogs in 16 locations.....food, necessary preventative meds, vaccinations and sterilizations.

To help with this huge workload we need:

Donations for food and meds (receipts will be provided)
Volunteers to assist on 5km route in Lamai Jungle
Hands on assistance with shopping cooking
Any unwanted collars/harness/treats/dog bowls/old saucepans
