The COVID-19 pandemic has meant that thousands of families in Phuket have lost 100% of their income - families that were already living hand to mouth. Although the lifting of lockdown has meant that many Thai and migrant workers we were feeding have managed to resume work, there are thousands of people working in industries both directly and indirectly related to tourism who have lost their jobs. Many of these people have fallen through the cracks of government funding, and those who have received money will only do so for three months. We have seen children picking through leaves on the ground trying to find food.
We are a group of Thai and expat volunteers who have come together to help desperately poor Thai and migrant families whose incomes and lives have been devastated by the world crisis.
We are all blessed to have experienced life on this very special island paradise, where so many people's livelihoods rely on the tourism industry. As a result of the world crisis, thousands of families have lost 100% of their income, and migrant workers remain in their camps facing starvation. Many fall through the cracks of the help provided by the government for various reasons.
We have come together Thais and expats alike, to help these people by providing weekly food packages to them. Our aim is to empower volunteers in each subdistrict to locate vulnerable families, and coordinate their own team to gather donations and distribute food.
A donation of just 250 Thai Baht will feed ONE family for a week. 1,400 will feed ONE family for a month. We have well over 800 families who desperately need our help! If we hit our target of 200,000 we can help feed nearly six hundred families this week!
With 350 Baht, we will buy the following:
5KG bag of rice
1 bottle of oil
5 tins of sardines
30 eggs
1 small bottle of fish sauce
10 packets of noodles
100% of your donation will go to helping the extremely vulnerable families who have confirmed that they desperately need food. With this money, Help Phuket Today buys the goods in bulk and makes up packs with the essentials needed by these families in order to survive. We also purchase nappies, sanitary pads for women, soap, laundry detergent or anything else that we deem essential to their survival.
