Hello, my name is Zach. My wife, Kylista, and I are expecting our first child—a baby girl—this April. Her name is Elliora Roos Foose, and she is already so deeply loved.

A few weeks ago, our world shifted. During a routine prenatal check-up, Elliora was diagnosed with a rare congenital condition called Duodenal Atresia. This means that the first part of her small intestine is blocked, preventing food and fluids from passing from her stomach into the rest of her body. Because of this, Elliora will need specialized surgery the day after she is born, followed by delicate and extended care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

On January 24th, Bangkok Hospital in Phuket provided us with an estimated cost of 850,000–1,500,000 Thai Baht (approximately $27,000–$48,000 USD) for her surgery and NICU care. Unfortunately, our work insurance does not cover medical expenses for our baby.

As we were processing this, we received further difficult news. On January 29th, Bangkok Hospital informed us that they are unable to proceed with delivering our baby due to Kylista’s underlying condition—Marfan Syndrome. Their cardiology team has serious concerns about the risk of aortic dissection, a potentially life-threatening complication during labor. Because of this, we have been referred to a top hospital in Bangkok that is equipped to safely handle both Kylista’s condition and Elliora’s surgery.

This means we must temporarily relocate from Phuket to Bangkok for the final month of Kylista’s pregnancy, the delivery, and Elliora’s NICU stay. Alongside the medical costs, we are facing unexpected expenses for travel, accommodation, and living away from home during an already emotional and uncertain time.

We are reaching out with hope and humility to ask for support in covering Elliora’s medical care. Any contribution—no matter the amount—will make a meaningful difference in giving our daughter the healthy start she deserves.
