ELEPHANT RETIREMENT PARK (CHIANG MAI, THAILAND)

OUR STORY:

Elephant retirement park is a grassroots initiative whose mission is to provide a nurturing space for elephants. Our aim is to provide a haven for abandoned elephants, and to simply love and respect all living beings. We also offer camping events for people to enjoy nature, learn about sustainable living and spend time with the elephants. Elephant Retirement Park is a home for retired working elephants, at the Baan Eieag village. Visitors are able to observe how elephants rehabilitate into a life in a natural forest habitat after decades of abuse, and get to experience a positive environment where they are free to roam around the park, with temperate weather that is comfortable all year round for visitors and the elephants.

The camp's founder, Adulwit Khamya, better known as Noi, has created a sustainable habitat for the elephants to live in a safe and natural environment, free from profiteering and neglect. At the elephant park, family units are never separated and herbal medicines are used to keep the animals healthy and able enjoy a better quality of life.

In 2018, Elephant Retirement Park partnered with other numerous elephant foundations, as well as with animal hospitals in Thailand, made possible by the monetary donations from the public, which also has provided medical supplies and medicines for treating our elephants every month.

Elaphant Sanctuary Asia Foundation foundation supports the elephant park and elephant hospital, and all donations to Elephant Retirement Park go through their foundation. And we spend 10,000 baht/week on food for our 7 elephants, to give some idea of costs.

And for a bit of "fine print" on The Elephant Sanctuary Asia Foundation:

Gathers documents and data in support of elephant preservation efforts for dissemination to agencies and the general public. Promotes and supports elephant conservation efforts by educational institutions, private individuals, government agencies and organizations in Thailand and in other countries. Procures donations in support of elephant welfare, distributes funds to relevant projects, and informs donors of how their donations are being used. Collaborates with other charities. Is non-political.
