The Story

Hello to all our friends and family of Adopt Meow - Kitten Rescue and Adoption Chiang Mai.

I have been given approval  by Liz Purdue, to set up this campaign.

I have been working with Liz for nearly four years now, and currently my primary volunteer role for Adopt Meow is fundraising and sponsorships for the kitties and the centre.

Liz has mentioned over a few facebook posts that Adopt Me-Ow is undertaking an extension of our Rescue Centre, which will be known as ‘Cats in Wonderland’.

If anyone is not aware of this incredible project, please have a read about it, in our February Newsletter below.

Currently, we have cats housed in various ‘sections’ of our rescue centre and this latest addition would mean nearly all of our adult cats will be housed together in an incredible ‘wonderland’.

For this to happen, we would like to test all our cats for FIV/FeLV and update their vaccinations (when they are due) BEFORE we move them into 'Cats in Wonderland'.

Therefore, I am seeking to raise 28,000baht so we can ensure the health and safety of all our cats.

We have 43 cats @600baht each = 25,800 (excluding fees) Total seeking to fundraise is 28,000baht which will cover fees.

We are very fortunate to have access to Thai Vets for FREE who will administer the tests and we also have been given reduced pricing on the test kits also.

All donations are gratefully accepted, however large or small.

WHAT is FeLV?
Feline leukaemia virus (FeLV) is a viral infection of cats occurring worldwide which can cause lymphoma, leukemia and tumours, as well as other more common side effects such as immunosuppression and anemia.

A cat persistently infected with FeLV is highly likely to develop clinical disease related to the virus. The development of effective vaccines and readily accessible tests have significantly reduced the prevalence of this disease, however, we do unfortunately see cases of FeLV positive cats here in Chiang Mai!

What is FIV?
FIV (Feline immunodeficiency virus) is a viral infection that affects cats that causes a weaker immune system in comparison to non-FIV positive cats.

When a cat is infected, it usually goes undetected, and then the cat enters a stage of progressive immune system decline. Many FIV positive cats can remain without symptoms for years.

Cats that are FIV positive are more prone to becoming sick with respiratory infections, skin infections, mouth inflammation and more, because of their compromised immune system, but there are no symptoms that are specific for FIV cats. In fact – some studies show that a cat with FIV can still have a similar life expectancy to most other felines.
