The Story

My name is Lullalit. I am a self-employed singing teacher in Thailand, and I am asking for help with something I never expected to face. I recently went into hospital with flu-like symptoms, thinking I would stay for only one night. I had several positive flu test results and needed a PCR test to confirm what was happening. But what was supposed to be a short hospital stay became seven days.

During the admission, doctors found that I had a urinary tract infection and dangerously high blood pressure that needed monitoring and treatment. I also received unexpected gynecological findings, including a uterine fibroid and an ovarian cyst, which now need follow-up care. It was frightening, exhausting, and emotionally overwhelming.

I have inpatient health insurance, and when I first applied for the policy, I submitted my medical records as requested. I believed I had done the responsible thing by protecting myself.

But on the day I was discharged, I was told that my insurance company, AXA, needs to do additional checks on my health history before deciding whether they will approve payment. They said this process may take up to 90 days. Because of this delay, the hospital required me to pay first.

The total hospital bill was around 200,000 THB. I used everything I had available — my credit card maximum limit — to pay 50,000 THB as a deposit, which I currently don't have enough in my bank to pay back into my card. And I still owe 150,000 THB, which the hospital has asked me to pay within 30 days. If I am unable to make to full payment within 30 days (July 15th) the hospital will take legal actions against me.

As a self-employed teacher, I do not have paid sick leave or a financial safety net. I have also recently been diagnosed with dysthymia (long term clinical depression), panic disorder, and ADHD. I am receiving ongoing psychiatric treatment, monthly therapy, and prescribed medication, all of which are medically necessary but expensive and not covered by my insurance. Paying for this care has gradually depleted the savings I would otherwise have relied on during an emergency like this. I am still recovering, still need follow-up medical care, and I also need to keep paying rent and basic living costs so I can continue working and teaching.

I am not asking because I was careless. I had insurance. I went to hospital for medical reasons. I paid everything I could. I am still waiting for the insurance review. But the hospital deadline is much sooner than the insurance timeline, and I need help bridging this gap. If you are able to donate even a small amount, it would mean so much.

If you cannot donate, sharing this page would also help more than you know.

Funds raised will be used for:

The hospital bill of  200,000 THB
Any immediate fees or payment charges connected to the hospital debt
Essential medical follow-up and recovery costs if insurance reimbursement is delayed.

If AXA later approves reimbursement, I will post an update and use the funds and any extra amount I may receive responsibly toward ongoing medical issues that needs regular follow-ups and on recovering my mental health.

I have spent my life teaching children, helping students find their voices, and trying to stand on my own feet. Asking for help like this is very difficult for me. But right now, I truly need a bridge through this emergency.

Thank you for reading, donating, sharing, praying, or simply caring.
