Elham is currently a student at UWC Thailand International School. He is here from his native Afghanistan on a scholarship to study, largely because of his commitment to protecting the planet and his work to shine a light on how climate change impacts developing and war-torn nations. Elham was selected out of 7,000 applicants to attend the first-ever UN Youth Climate Action Summit in September but was unable to secure a visa for the US ( read more about that here: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2019/09/afghan-student-invited-youth-climate-summit-denied-visa-190917135606682.html ). Now Elham has a second chance to be heard as a delegate with YOUTHTOPIA, an organization led by Melati Wijsen of Bali's Bye Bye Plastic Bags movement, to travel to Chile for the United Nations Conference of YOUTH and the United Nations Conference of the Parties on Convention for Climate Change (known as COP 25) from November 28 to December 8, 2019.
The cost for Elham to attend is US$5,000 + flights and daily expenses. If we are to save our planet, we need as many climate activists to be heard as possible—especially youth—and even more so, youth from underrepresented regions of the world. If you agree, please help us support Elham!
