Justice for Ollie Dog!

2145

The Story

Full Moons will never be the same for us. Life will never be the same for us. As I’m getting ready to feed my two other dogs - Maya and Draco, my chest squeezes tight again, because Ollie is gone.
He’s running around the Rainbow Bridge with Pai Mei - our other dog who died of cancer just 12 weeks before Ollie was viciously attacked.

Ollie was taken away from us by one man in a moment of cruelty.

This is for Ollie. For our sweet baby boy. But also for other dogs (and animals) out there, so this won’t happen again - because for one dog to go through this is already too much.

All we want now is for Ollie to get the justice he deserves. And for his tragic loss to mean something more than the suffering he went through.

So please, spend the next three minutes and read our story and share it with everyone who you know, and if you can please donate. We need money for a lawyer so we can bring this man to justice, the next court date is on the 26th of September 2024, and we need this ASAP so we can appoint a lawyer so they can get ready in time.

We know we can’t change what happened and this won’t bring Ollie back. If only it would.

But by bringing this case to the only logical conclusion, together we will change the future of other animals. To change the minds of people who don’t yet understand animal cruelty is morally wrong but also legally wrong.

For people like Ollie’s killer to understand that there are legal consequences and repercussions, otherwise this circle will continue - owners suffering will still be afraid to speak up and dogs will continue to suffer.

Let me take you back to 6th of July 2022 - a dooming day that changed our lives forever - as a result my husband Ian has PTSD and 2 years on we are still trying to fight to get justice for our Ollie.
I (Helen) was in Bangkok airport catching a flight back to the UK when it happened. My husband, Ian, was back in Koh Samui with our four dogs at the time: Ollie, Maya, Draco.
We lived in a rented house on stilts like many are in Thailand. The property had a secure fence, a big garden - loads of sunny spaces and shade too for us and the dogs.

One of Ollies favourite things was to enjoy lounging in the sun, playing in the shade, and enjoying the extra light that flooded his little kingdom with a nighttime glow with us in the grass.
On that day, the dogs were in the garden. Something of a routine. They would play together before their dinner time at around 6 PM.
At around 5:30 PM Maya and Draco came up to the kitchen, hearing the familiar sounds and smelling the smells of their dinners being served.

While Ollie was never the most food orientated dog, it was unusual for him not to come running up the stairs for his evening meal and some after-dinner cuddles.

So my husband went down into the garden to look for him.
The gate was closed but Ollie was nowhere to be seen - after looking around the garden he started panicking and an overwhelming fear came over him.

He phoned me telling me something was wrong and that he couldn’t find Ollie.

I suggested starting the car because the noise of the engine would get Ollie excited and rushing over for a fun car ride.
The worst was going through our minds… What if he escaped and was hit by a car? What if a dog or snake bit him? What if he got lost in the hills and jungle just up and over the hillside.
All these things… but never in a million years did we expect what came next.

My husband drove around looking for him but he was nowhere to be found. Came back home and then started exploring by foot.

He hears something strange. Panting, heavy breathing - he follows the noise and 50 m away from our gate, there was our Ollie - trapped with a horrific wound. Blood pouring from the top of his head. Unable to stand, but conscious and in agony.
Ian carefully gathered him up in his arms and rushed Ollie to the pet hospital.

The vets have been amazing, they were familiar with Ollie as he’s been there for checkups and blood tests.

One of the staff gently took Ollie straight to the operating room.
They told Ian that Ollie needs an eye removed and his skull is cracked open, he has traumatic brain injuries and severe bleeding.
They later said in their report that Ollie had been struck with a sharp bladed instrument. They worked hard to stop the bleeding. Removed the eye and stabilised him with emergency surgery.

They kept him as comfortable as they could. Hoping he could recover.
The prognosis was not good, all this time, Ollie was conscious and aware but he seemed disorientated..
You cannot imagine the pain our boy was going through. Or the desperation in our hope to take him home.

Ollie was a family member. We’d had him since he was a puppy. For eight years. And he was still so healthy. So joyful. Had so many more fun days being walked on the beach or playing tug with his brother and sister.

The amazing staff at the Pet Hospital did everything they could to prevent infections and they told us that in the event Ollie is going to pull through, he will have a disability - but he was our baby all we wanted was to bring him back home, so they did everything they could as they monitored him and did what any medical professional does in case of a traumatic brain injury - hope and pray.

Unfortunately, on the 10th of July, Ollie had a huge seizure due to the severity of the injury inflicted on him.

On the 11th of July, Ian went to see the site where he found Ollie, and the man that lives on that property (that we never spoke to before) and his son came out and said that he had hit Ollie in the head.
He told my husband that the reason he did this was because Ollie was fighting with his chickens. There are reasons to believe this is not true, but because there is an ongoing legal case, there are things that we cannot mention as of yet.

We want to say that we do not condone dogs being unsupervised or running around freely to hurt other animals or people.
Ollie was 100% Good Boy, he was never aggressive nor reactive even when he was at the vets (after or before the brain injury) in an environment where he could be scared with all the different smells, other dogs and all types of noises.

Even when he had bloods taken for check-ups not once he needed to be restrained nor muzzled.

The vets also confirmed that there were no signs of Ollie biting any other animal. No blood in his teeth, no feathers. No ne of the tell-tale signs.
We flatly and wholly do not accept the story that Ollie harmed any chickens. This is also not to say that dogs who are reactive or aggressive deserve what happened to Ollie. To be struck and left to suffer in the bushes while his attacker wandered around his garden and left him there, not even calling local authorities or one of the many vets or charities on the island.

No animal should suffer like this ever!

In what world is it acceptable to strike a dog with a deadly blow, leaving him alive but suffering and in agony, making no attempt to get any help for Ollie? Ollie’s suffering meant nothing for the man that not only caused all this suffering but also admitted doing it. The so-called evidence against Ollie isn’t there. Because the story isn’t true.
Not only have our lives changed for the worst, Ian has PTSD.
Two years on and we are trying really hard to bring justice to Ollie so no other dogs have to go through this, but we cannot afford a proper lawyer and representation so we are turning towards you as we have exhausted all our means.

We need to get justice for Ollie because we want the Thai Animal Cruelty Laws upheld. We need people to understand that this is a serious crime and there will be serious consequences.

We need this to work so other pets and their owners don’t have to go through this. We need to spread awareness of this case so other people have the courage to fight too, because this is more common than you think.

People are afraid to speak up. Understandably so. Smeone who can do that to a harmless dog and walk away and sleep a full night’s sleep that same day are regarded with great suspicion. If he can be violent like that to our silly, goofy, cuddly Ollie, what else might he do?

So please donate, so we can not only bring justice to Ollie but to bring this man to justice, otherwise the cycle will continue… People like him will keep hurting owners and pets, people like us will be afraid to speak up and animals will continue to suffer. We spoke to a lawyer and the estimated fees are going to exceed 200,000 THB. Every little donation helps. Please help us in our fight for Ollie’s justice.
I don’t want to think that our Ollie has flown and has crossed the rainbow bridge in vain…

NOTE: We also have a page live on GoFundMe. Both pages are legitimate. But GoFundMe is not available in Thailand. And we know how many Thai animal lovers there are here so we have set up this page too.

IN CASE MONEY RAISED IS NOT USED FOR YHIS CASE IT WILL BE DONATED TO WATCHDOG THAILAND FOUNDATION: So they can continue their work to ensure laws are upheld to the highest standard and continue to assist, educate and protect animals lawfully.
