Living Waters Phuket Foundation

Living Waters Phuket Foundation (LWPF) was established in late 2021 to help charities, foundations and government organisations by providing financial grants, enabling essential relief aid to underprivileged communities across Thailand.

LWPF operates both community projects and provides funding for existing relief projects. All team members are volunteers; working towards building brighter futures for those in need.

Shaun Stenning of 5 Star Marine set up this credible and desperately needed Foundation at the end of 2021, with his company being the major funding source behind Living Waters Phuket. This new Foundation previously carried forward the work 5 Star Marine completed during the Pandemic, as well as providing financial grants for vital community initiatives.

You can donate here, or alternatively, if you prefer to make a direct donation please contact us at more@livingwatersphuket.com and we will get back to you.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Join Nando on one of our many weekly food relief efforts which have been taking place for 2 years now.

Watch the brand new video here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FmbYzOIO3c&t=192s

On this occasion, students and staff at the British International School helped pack and deliver over 500 life bags; although the heartbreaking reality is that LWP Foundation's budget only stretches so far, and once again many were left without the vital supplies they need - this is why we ask for your donations, so that nobody is left behind whilst we help the communities in Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi and Phang Nga.

In addition to the food relief efforts, we have been busy with our Back to School and clean water initiatives, among many others - check out https://www.livingwatersphuket.com/

for more information.

As tourism continues to be in a lull here in Phuket and case numbers continue to be strong the need for life bags continues.

Our team are packing with the help of local volunteers, international schools and the 5 Star Marine staff.  Deliveries are taking place multiple times a week with the focus being on Isolated Locals and those who are yet to return to work.

While we are seeing signs of a slow recovery it is not yet enough to cease the operation of our life bag project, in fact we currently have a list island wide of 19,000 people in need of immediate food relief.

In addition to our life bag project we are also executing projects to get kids back to school, provide clean water to islands that dont have access and also improve access to computers and IT Learning.

If you are living in Phuket then you would be fully aware of the escalating covid situation here. Cases are going up, workers are being ordered to stay at home, communities are being isolated.

This is not something new, in fact it's something that countries worldwide have been battling now for almost 3 years. The problem here in Phuket is that we are an island that relies on tourism for most employment and economic opportunities. In fact over 90% of the the islands population are directly employed by tourism or tourism supporting activities.

When cases rise like this tourism confidence is affected, tourism arrivals decrease, tourism employers lay off workers and food security becomes a huge problem.

Unfortunately this is also not a new experience here in Phuket. It is something that our team here at 5 Star Marine have been working to support over the last 20+ months.

Over the last few days our phones have not stopped calling with Village Leaders asking for help. As part of our large scale food security operation over the last 20 months we connected with over 130 village leaders and helped them and there community members to fight through and survive with "Life Bags"

We had hoped in 2022 the need for life bags would decline but this is not the case.

5 Star Marine is following it's commitment to keep helping providing Life Bags and is funding 1000's of life bags a week. This is all being done through the Charitable Foundation that they founded called Living Waters Phuket.

To find our more about Living Waters Phuket and also this latest rise in need for life bags please take a read of this great article by The Thaiger:

Coconut Island Water Purification Project

Living Waters Phuket Foundation are happy to have completed this project, which saw the vital provision of filtered and portable water for around 300 students.

The children are based at the Coconut Island School, an island near to Phuket. Our Foundation provided financial assistance to enable the installation of new water filtration systems so that these school children can easily access clean water.

In addition, there was also aid to purchase critical equipment for the school’s kitchen including a new fridge, freezer and fans. This project was completed in January 2022 and the Foundation are proud to be part of giving these children what so many of us take for granted – clean drinking water.

Clean Energy Project

Living Waters Phuket has recently completed the installation of solar panels for the Good Shepherd Phuket Town (GSPT) Learning Centre.

Living Waters Phuket is based around finding and funding sustainable solutions to food security, education and environmental issues. So, solar energy for this charity organisation sits well with their funding criteria.

This initiative will allow the Learning Centre to save money by removing the high electricity costs they were paying previously to run the centre. This completed project now uses a clean and sustainable energy solution that the Foundation is proud to have been able to provide funding for.

Emergency Food Relief

As part of Living Waters Phuket Foundation's ongoing commitment to provide Emergency Food Relief across the Island, we were busy packing and delivering our life bags last week (as we do every single week) with the 5 Star Marine team. Khun Zeera and the team were out delivering life bags into the community as they do every week; on several occassions last week.

One of the hardest parts of the work we do, is to see all of the community members still in need. These smiling, happy and friendly community members dont want to be in these food lines, they don't want to be asking for help. They want to get back to work.

There is hope, things are improving and the future is looking stronger every day.

These life bags provide immediate food supplies to those communities still in need across the Island.

Kathu Wittya School Project

Stage 1 - Complete:

Our foundation issued a financial grant to support a sustainable farming and food production education programme for the Kathu Wittaya School.

This long-term initiative is designed around teaching almost 1,000 children about the process of producing and harvesting food, plus the food grown will be donated to a local orphanage to support the local community further.

This initiative aims to give these children the skills to be self-sufficient and take this knowledge back to their communities in the hope of a better and more sustainable future.

The Sustainable Education on Farming and Food Production project for phase 1 is now complete.

A phase 2 grant application was completed for the construction of buildings to store produce and a shop front from which to sell from. We look forward to updating you on stage 2 very soon.

PROJECT COMPLETE

Living Waters Phuket Foundation are proud to announce that we have completed our first fully funded initiative, for Phuket Has Been Good To Us

The Foundation funded and provided new IT equipment for over 500 disadvantaged children, in order for teachers, volunteers and administrators to be able to deliver their English classes more effectively and efficiently. The previous equipment was old, unreliable and often shut down mid lesson making classes increasingly difficult to hold.

The newly installed equipment will help teachers deliver higher quality lessons, printed materials and content and this initiative aims to help students progress further with their education, giving them a brighter future for employment options, thus helping their families also.
