The man that rescues dogs

My name is Michael J. Baines and I have been rescuing street dogs in Thailand since 2011. Until 2016 I worked alone, now I have staff that help me care for around 250 dogs daily. Some dogs lives in our foster home, some will stay there forever, old age, sick or too scared to be re homed. for some dogs it's a place to heal, get socialized and rehabilitated, when well enough, we find a good home for them. We rescue dogs that have been dumped or born on the streets here in Thailand. Some dogs we rescue are sick, some can't walk, some are blind, some been run over by cars or abused etc. from April, 2017 we work together with the local municipality and we have expanded the existing dog pound, from only 160 sqm concrete, to an area with grass, trees, pool, clinic room, etc on 1800 sqm. Now it's a home for 150+ dogs. We spay and neuter dogs, and we arrange spay and neuter days as often as we can. This is my call, this is what I do. But I can not continue helping the neglected dogs without help. We spend approximately 200 000 baht per month (6000 USD) on food, medication, vet visits, spay and neuter, staff, transport etc. It is a lots of money, but we do get the work done. EVICTED FROM THE FOSTER HOME!

The dogs homeless!!

The Municipality have issued a warning letter, after a neighbor complained, that we need to decrease the amount of dogs in the foster home, or move!!!

(The municipality are doing their job, they are not to blame)

A few weeks ago we start to get complaints from some neighbors to the foster home. They went to the committee of the gated community.

“Noisy and smelly” - we took care of that by moving the most healthy dogs to the shelter. But we need to keep most sick and old dogs under our supervision.

One of the neighbors wasn’t happy with what we have done to meet the requirements, as she hates dogs.

She contacted the Municipality and filed another complaint.

A warning letter of eviction was handed over today, giving us only 15 days to manage this, or move.

Meaning the dogs in our care in that house, Papa, Seven, Spud, Narak, Lion etc.

All dogs with special needs, will go where??

We must build an area/rooms at the shelter for the dogs with special needs, sick and handicapped and also for the staff who cares for them.

We can’t leave these dogs unattended, they will die.

These dogs depends on us, and we depend on your help.

Deadline is very soon.

Might be able to buy some time.

Please help us.

Also as of the recent, and still ongoing distemper outbreak in the shelter, and when we still have our minds on it.

A total of 78 dogs sick of the virus.

We need to prevent this for the future.

We will build a quarantine area for new dogs and sick ones.

I’m doing this fundraising parallel with a fundraising on a thai platform. When the total have been reached, I will close them.

This is the costs:

Quarantine area - 4 rooms (2 x 5 m each) 350 000 baht (11 000 US$)

House and area for special need dogs and staff - 500 000 baht (15 000 US$)

Recreation and therapy pool for disabled dogs - 75 000 baht (2300 US$)

Places in the shelter where the dogs can hide, sleep and stay on top - 50 000 baht (1 500 US$)

Utilities for shelter - 50 000 baht (1 500 US$)

Fence around the new areas - 200 000 baht (6 000 US$)

Kitchen in shelter - 25 000 baht (750 US$)

Tiling of old shelter - 120 000 baht (3 600 US$)

Furniture - 30 000 baht (1 000 US$)

Included in the construction is all electric, water and drainage system work.

Total: 1 400 000 baht (42 000 US$)
