I would like to start by saying thank you to the people of Phuket and Thailand on behalf of the expat and teaching community. Without your warmth, friendliness and accomodation our lives would be empty in our adopted home and I know that me and so many others are eternally thankful for that.
The BanYa Literacy Centre in conjunction with The Good Shepherd Centre is one of the most noble charities we have here in Phuket. Their mission is to work in direct service with women, children, families and victims of human trafficking to improve dignity, support self-sufficiency and enhance the quality of life to those who have been excluded from the benefits of society. At a time when these communities are being hit even harder by the Covid-19 situation they are working tirelessly to deliver food and basic living necessities to those seriously affected across Phuket and other provinces. With restrictions in place and a lack of funding this is currently a much harder job than anyone could have anticipated and so I come to you for help, with some light entertainment thrown in for free.
Those who know me will know that I like my hair, a lot. It's wild, it's long and it's been that way since I can remember. At various times I've hidden behind it, been destroyed by it (bad haircuts) and never once stopped twiddling with it. Well, for the first time in my 32 years I will shave my head if we can hit this target, for no reason really other than giving you guys a little something for helping. How I can broadcast this I'll have to figure out, either a YouTube video or Facebook Live but trust me, these locks will be no more.
Oh and why 45,000 baht? Well, that's what a foreign teacher can make (and sometimes spend) here in a month. This money will provide care packages for 180 families who will never know that kind of excess. Even if you choose not to donate, please be as kind, helpful and understanding to others as you can. We'll all get there, together.
Thank you.
