The Story
37 months ago

Zin is 21, and she's a young talent from Myanmar: she needs your support to pursue her higher education in Thailand, her dream.

In August 2020, Zin was admitted in the UDDI Bachelor Course of Thammasat University thanks to a Scholarships for foreigner students. The Scholarship allowed Zin to be enrolled in our Program free-of-charge, and she followed the first semester online due to the pandemic. We are in the middle of the second semester now.

With the recent tragic political escalation in Myanmar, Zin's participation to the Program, her dream to pursue a degree in Thailand and her will to honor the Scholarship are at stake
With the violent repression in the street of her city, Yangon, the cuts to internet and a general hazard to the physical security, she cannot follow up the pace with the classes anymore, risking her own safety and her student career.
The escalation of such a political situation is reflected also on her precarious family situation, where harsh economic conditions doesn't allow her to fly to Thailand and to pursue her dream to build a better future.
We raise this help to let her come to Thailand as soon as possible.

This help will cover the necessary support for her to follow her dreams.
Its amount includes:

- the flight Yangon - Bangkok (and the necessary covid test for it);
- the covid insurance;
- the quarantine;
- health coverage in Thailand;

- monthly sustain in Thailand (accomodation in the Campus, food, study materials, etc.).

Higher the amount we collect, longer and sustainable her time in Thailand will be...the sooner, the better.

Thanks in advance for your attention and concerns about Zin's situation.
She's a talent looking for a chance to access the education as a personal empowerment and to follow her dream of self-realisation.

Dear all,

What a busy time!
This semester teachers and students had been so busy with online Courses; Zin as well!

During these semesters, thanks to your contributions, she was able to settle in a dormitory close to the Rangsit Campus and start this new parenthesis of her life, meeting local and international students.

During these months she performed greatly in her subjects, reaching a very high (outstanding!) GPA in all the exams and showing a constant honest interest towards the different subjects. She was able to obtain an NGO Scholarship for Burmese young talent as well which is covering part of the life expenses.

Overall, Zin found a safe environment to live in, participate to and where to express herself personally and professionally.  We support her as we do with all our students; we think the educational empowerment is starting to show visible results. Personally, I am happy and proud to were able to set up this but, more than that, to established a bridge between your goodwill and the chance to empower a talented person. I will be extremely grateful to all of you, and she will be too.

Thank you again for all your support.

P.s.: This semester's presentations and exams will start next week. So far, Zin's intermediate results are very promising, altogether with her determined leadership in the group design she's leading.
Let's wish her a good luck!

P.s.2: In the image, Zin meets her instructors altoghether with some classmates prior to a site visit in Bangkok this November.

Dear all,
finally a very good news!

Zin is out from quarantine and she reached Bangkok, where she will be hosted in a dorm held by trusted friends of mine, which will provide a safe and stimulating environment for her life in Thailand!

What happened, in detail:
After the latest news I shared here, the doctors observed her conditions for 10 days: given the absence of COVID symptomps, they dismissed her from the hospital, prescribing however some precautional isolation time to be spend partially in quarantine. After other extra days, today she was allowed to be out from quarantine, given her good condition of health.

So, today I personally took care of the check-out and of the check-in in the aforementioned accomodation, where she will be self isolated for a week as cautionary preventive measures.
Zin will be so busy with exams and final presentations in our Semester: her time will pass so quickly in this "new normal" week of her life!
More news to come!

We remind however the campaign is still on: our goal is still to provide a durable and comfortable stay in Thailand to complete her path of study during the rest of her Bachelor Degree.

Stay tuned for more!

With extreme gratitude,

IMPORTANT UPDATE!

There's one amazing news, and one a bit more unhappy.

Last week, with all your support, we were able to coordinate with Zin, the Thai Embassy in Myanmar, the Thammasat University: we purchased the insurance, the flight, the visa, the COVID test and we produced all the necessary documents...and Zin is now in Thailand!

However, during her quarantine - still undergoing, beside two negative COVID tests and the absence of symptoms, the third test came out to be positive. From her quarantine facility, Zin has hence be moved to the TU hospital in Pathum Thani hospital for further observations.

She feels good, and thank you all for your generous efforts!

The campaign is however still on: our goal is now to provide a durable and comfortable stay in Thailand to complete her path of study.

Stay tuned for more!

Wit's extreme gratitude,

Federico Puggioni,
Ass.t Director UDDI Program,
