The Story

Hello My name is Vin and I am helping raise funds for my younger brother Nino, who has been diagnosed with brain cancer, imaging findings are most compatible with intracranial germinoma, it isn’t necessarily the most aggressive cancer but germ cells are malignant, 2 developing tumors have been found on his brain and they’re slowly spreading, one is 3.0 cm at size which is causing his eyes to drop because it’s compressing its optic chiasm and the other is at 1.6 cm. The doctors have also found out he’s got an obstructive hydrocephalus with transependymal edema. At this point, he’s behavior is not normal, he can get aggressive to the ones attending to him and wrestle with them, he would ran back and forth on the hallway before he could urinate or defecate, he utters topics that weren’t even being talked about. At first, none of these made sense, until we got some explanation from his doctors and they said that his tumors are located in the frontal lobe, which controls personality and behavior.

Let me cut down to the chase, I am no expert on medical terms, all I know my brother is suffering from  cancer killing tumors that’s slowly deteriorating his body and all we could do is watch him lie on his hospital bed and assisting him the best we could so we could buy him more time. Doctors are closely observing the behavior of his cancer before employing the right treatment, as we were told this case is a unique one and not a lot of medical literatures written about it, one thing is for sure surgery isn’t an option because it will increase the fatality rate and the chances of recovery is very narrow if ever they try to remove the tumors that way as those tumors are indenting the floor and 3rd ventricle and also on his pineal gland. Due to the uniqueness of this case, they sent samples of the test to Manila the capital city of the Philippines, as we are in Cagayan de oro city by the way, to confirm their findings. Days later, the result of the test came out, final diagnoses also shared to us, they also shared what can be done, they said he will undergo radiotheraphy or chemotheraphy or combination of both to slowly eliminate those tumors. He needs to be at the hospital for as long as he needed to be and honestly we don’t know until when will that be. He got admitted at the hospital since 25th of August.

Nino is very young , he is just 26 years old, he is our youngest brother. I’ve been his big brother since he was a kid. I’ve seen him grown from a young child to a young adult. I’ve shared stories of my life with him,  he shared his. My friends are his, his, are also my friends. He is not just a brother to me but also a best-friend. He is bright kid, a very good listener, he used to be a dean’s lister during his college years and I know he still have a lot to give to get where he wanted to be in this finite life that we have. But now is not the time for that, he’s still very young.

It saddens me that a bright guy like him is at this state, he is declared to be incapable of taking care himself, he suffers dementia, when you ask him things sometimes he forgets and brought up things you didn’t ask. He is hallucinating.  When I first heard him like this, I couldn’t hold back my tears. It was the most painful feeling I have ever felt in my life, that my brother who I used to know as sensible, witty and smart is not the same anymore.

I don’t know when we can have him back normal again.  We will continue to listen and abide to the doctors advice and decision as we continue to closely monitor Nino.

With that being said, I am seeking to raise funds to help my family and especially my younger brother cover the costs of radiotherapy, chemo, hospital stay etc.

I am humbly requesting for your help to get this bright young man back to health so he can continue with his life and dreams and come back to us, his friends(the people that believe in him) and my family who love  and miss him dearly.

I am humbly asking for your help for any amount you can donate to bring back him to a normal life.

This is BB yesterday, 15th of Spetmeber  2022, after his 2nd ventriclostomy surgery. As you might have noticed on the photo there is another tube(that's where the area the ventricustomy was performed) and it is linking with the old tube where the fluids get excreted.

And for his red marks, there's nothing to worry about, it is his body's reaction towards steroid. It is slowly fading away now.

It's been 21 days since BB had been admitted to the  hospital and diagnosed with 2 developing tumors. He underwent 2 ventriculostomy surgeries already. Big thanks to those people who extended their support. I can't thank you enough for your generosity.

The first ventriculostomy surgery wasn't enough to drain all the excess fluids that's been causing intracranial pressure as the tumors were growing it's blocking the passageways of CFS. Due to this, his doctor had to do a quick ventricustomy surgery for the second time to aleviate the excess the fluid and so BB could survive.

As we speak, Nino is recovering from his second surgery and is now preparing for his first dose of  beam radiotheraphy tomorrow.  He is not allowed to ingest any food, he can drink water a little bit of water and that's all.

As of today Nino is in the ICU after Ventriculostomy surgery and he’s recovering well. I will attach some ophotos of him post-op, I’ve seen noticeable improvement on his face, especially his eyes. He looks sharp, he doesn’t look like he’s out of place, he’s sensing the situation. One doctor said, he’s contemplating about the future and that is a really good sign, it means his higher brain frontal cortex function has returned very opposite from what we’ve seen pre op. Right now, he’s still at the Care Unit and will stay for 24-48hrs for monitoring.

For those who do not know, ventriculostomy is a neurological procedure intended for his hydrocephalus, so a hole has been created through his skull within his cerebral ventricle for drainage. The tube then placed through the hole allowing the fluids to flow out.

The fluids that were collected from his brain will be tested for biopsy and this will tell us if cancer cells are present or not or to see the extent of the disease. We’re still waiting for the result of the test.

thank you for everyone who had extended their support. i will continue to update you guys.

Let's pray harder for BB.
